About Tom Wiser

Engineering firms commonly boast a long list of completed projects and years of “combined experience,” but in many cases the most skilled engineers have left the firm or are now in management. New projects are often handled by engineers with very little experience.

After working for a decade and a half in larger firms and watching engineers float from company to company or move away from project work and into management, Tom saw the need for a different kind of engineering practice. In 1997, he established Wiser Rail Engineering as a sole proprietorship to provide his clients with the kind of personalized, timely, focused expertise that a large firm just can’t provide.

Tom welcomes projects of any size, from a pedestrian crossing to a multi-year, multi-phase port and rail project. With more than 30 years experience in all aspects of port and rail design and development, Tom himself handles all phases of the project, including master planning, design, and construction observation. Tom loves a challenge and enjoys coming up with innovative solutions to complex port and railroad system challenges.
